September 2020 Newsletter As most of you know, we moved houses in mid August which physically took two weeks during the hottest weather! Tip to the wise: never try to move in the middle of summer in HOT Florida! Of course, we rarely have control over when a house sells, and we are so grateful that everything worked out so smoothly. It couldn’t have gone better. AND the bright side is that because it IS summer and work is slow, we got some great deals on furniture, closet build outs, and other new house needs. During those two weeks of being without a home I got to thinking about how a home defines and secures us. It is such a comfort to walk into your own space, whether a room, or a whole house. “This is where I belong” is what you feel subconsciously. We breathe a sigh of relief walking in that door where we belong. And a home reflects your being. The colors, the shapes, the comfort level, the fabrics and patterns, the accessories, the art…..they all reflect you. This is how feng shui works. In your home you can arrange things to support you. When you do not feel comfortable in your own home you generally have control over where to place things, what colors to use, what fabrics and surfaces to employ….and if you do not feel “right”, then the feng shui is “off” for you at that particular moment in time. This is when you need to look around and figure out what is not working for you. Perhaps it is the color of your new chair. Or the fabric and pattern of the new draperies. Maybe it is the lack of greenery, or the need to replace that worn out sofa the cat has shredded over the years. When your home feels “off”, it is time to re-evaluate what is making it feel that way. Take a good look around. Try to rearrange some things and see if that makes a difference. Bring in something new or take out something old. And if this is not something that is easy for you to do, perhaps it is time to hire a professional to help you. Here are a couple of websites to help you but there are many more as well: http://www.interioralignment.com/practitioner/
When I studied Interior Alignment with Denise Linn, she always said, “if it doesn’t feel good, it is not good feng shui.” Ditto my experience in studying with Nancilee Wydra of Feng Shui Institute of America. I loved finding feng shui because it took my profession of interior design into the realm of the Spirit/Soul. I could finally work with clients on that deep level I desired. Both Color and Feng Shui allowed me to change people’s lives on that deeper level which was so much more satisfying than just fluffing up a person’s décor. At any rate, as I create a new home environment for my husband and myself, I will use this opportunity to address both of our desires and needs of our Souls. It’s a good thing to do every now and then for all of us. Revisit your home and make sure it is working for you because things change. We change. Our needs change. Our focus changes. When I was growing up I was always moving my bedroom around which drove my Mother crazy. But even then I was so sensitive to the energy around me that I was compelled to do that. So take a look at your home and see what needs tweaking. Fall is a good time to do this as your focus turns from being outside to preparing for the winter months inside.
“Your home is your heart’s work of art.” William DeFoore “Wooden Hearts” I’m Breaking up with Social Media. Wait! What???? by Carolynn Anctil (The following post is from a dear friend of mine from Canada and although we have never met in person, we have become friends through the blessings of the internet. However, we both are stepping back from using Social Media, for several reasons. Here is her latest post about a few reasons why. This is food for thought as many of us re-evaluate where we spend our time, and what practices these online platforms employ. Enjoy:)
I’m Breaking up with Social Media. Wait! What????
“Life’s like an hourglass glued to the table.” Anna Nalick – Breathe
I recently took an extended break from social media and all the “content creation” and posting that we small business owners are encouraged to engage in, if we want to achieve success in our chosen field. It had become a mountain of all-consuming busy work, posing as progress, that was keeping my to-do list full of endless tasks, with very little to show for it. The experience is akin to being caught in an undertow in the ocean. There’s a whole lot of paddling going on, but you’re literally going nowhere.
In the space that was created by the small act of simply choosing to step away and quiet my mind, I experienced enormous relief. I had long known that social media, as a whole, had become a source of distraction for me and, at the risk of sounding dramatic, it has slowly been sucking the life out of me and my business. “You must learn one thing. The world was made to be free in. Give up all the other worlds except the one to which you belong. Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet confinement of your aloneness to learn anything or anyone that does not bring you alive is too small for you.” John O’Donohue Since choosing to stop the constant scrolling, I’ve experienced more peace and my muse has tentatively begun showing up in my creative life again. I’ve had more satisfying days in the studio, recently, which only confirms what I already know:
It’s where I need to focus my time and attention. Everything else is merely distraction.
That’s not to say the events of the world are not important, it’s that I’ve been allowing the noise and turmoil to divert my attention away from what I’m here to do. Namely, to create an energetic oasis in the midst of that chaos, for those who need rest. That is my work.
It seems counter intuitive to step away, yet, if I take the time to examine it, I arrive at the simple truth that I don’t want to be a great Instagrammer. I want to be a great artist.
“No matter how rich you may be, there are only so many sips in the straw…metaphorically speaking, we all want fries with that.” Karin Bugge I’m not entirely sure how things will look, going forward, but what I will no longer be doing is following someone else’s business plan. My immediate course of action is to get quiet and see what bubbles up for me.
My new relationship with social media is going to more closely resemble two friends meeting up for coffee, every once in a while, to share what’s new and catch up on events in our lives, rather than the daily check-ins everyone has come to expect. So, if you’re interested in staying in touch with me, I encourage you to stay subscribed to my newsletter. While I’ll continue to post new work and major announcements on my existing social media accounts, I’ll be focusing the bulk of my efforts on building community on my own platforms and, of course, art creation.
My plan is to be predictably unpredictable. So, strap yourself in. This could get interesting. Warmly,
Carolynn www.carolynnanctildesign.com Color is a great way to infuse your space with the energy you and it need. This is why I created my complete line of color therapy sprays made from essential oils, crystals, flower essences and love. Go to my shop to find out which color is working for you at this moment in time: http://www.lifepotentials.net/shop/“There is a way you can work with color to determine which color or colors are supporting you at any moment in time. The idea of color therapy is that our bodies use up colors as we move through challenges. It’s the same way our bodies use the fuel we ingest in the form of foods. As we move through life’s challenges and even just our daily lives, we deplete colors in our body’s energy centers, which are called chakras.”
Diantha Harris p.14 Simply Color for Everyday Living This is the Table of Contents for Simply Color for Everyday Living, the latest book in the Simiply Color series. It was written by 25 professionals plus myself and covers all these ways to use color. Dr. Quaranto describes it as a “combination of self developement, feng shui,” and “tons of ideas.” The book is a great gift item, as well as a wonderful book for your own library and reference http://www.lifepotentials.net/media/books Happy Beginning of Fall. Hi. My name is Diantha, like the flower Dianthus, and I love color. Always have, always will. I’ve studied it, worked with it, played with it, wondered about it, dreamed about it, and developed a business around it. My goal was to change the world through color, and although a lofty and probably unachievable goal, my vision will always be one in which all people learn the value and power of color and how it can support us and transform us as we move through our challenges.
To that end I developed a full line of color sprays which I named after my first book: Simply Color (available now at your Kindle store). The 15 Simply Color sprays were developed during the time I was doing a lot of teaching about color and I wanted something simple and easy that my students and clients could use to bring in the color they most needed. You see, the colors of the rainbow spectrum relate to our chakras, organs, glands, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual planes. When something is out of alignment, we get sick, or have issues arise in our lives. Being human beings, this happens frequently as we are here to learn, to develop our souls and to raise our consciousness.
So I learned how to use color to our advantage and have taught countless others how to do that as well. For example, the color of red relates to our ability to ground and manifest. It is extremely helpful to use when we lack energy, or want to start a business, or when we desire to manifest something. Or the color of blue relates to peace, calming and communication. When I was learning to speak up for myself, blue was the color that supported me in learning and then doing that, with grace and ease.
Each color also relates to an organ and gland. So on the physical level it can have an impact as well as emotionally, mentally or spiritually. When we have a challenge in life, we use up the color in our energy body that relates to that color and we need to replenish it. These color sprays are like liquid light, carrying the vibrational qualities of each color so that using the spray will help replenish the colors that have been diminished or lost.
I developed 15 Simply Color Sprays, 10 Simply Color Children’s Sprays, 17 Simply Feng Shui sprays, and have 3 Healing Sprays. I also make custom sprays that target an individual’s needs.
One of my favorites in the Simply Color collection is Rainbow. It is a great general spray for elevating one’s spirits and bathing the energy body in the rainbow spectrum. It smells lovely even though the formulas are not created for scent but for effectiveness.
In the healing sprays, my favorite is Angel’s Song which was originally made for a young male who was in crisis. His Grandmother contacted me and told me what was going on and the result wass this amazingly powerful but gentle spray. Opalescence is another in this series developed to bring joy, creativity and inspiration to creative endeavors. Originally made for an artist, most people who order this are using it for it’s effervescent, magical energy.
Once I created the color sprays, I also developed a full line of Feng Shui sprays. My favorite in this collection is the Wellbeing one which brings in the vibration of wholeness and wellbeing based in the core of our being. This one targets the middle gua of the 9 in the bagua, which is known as Health. And without health, we have nothing.
The sprays contain a propietary blend of essential oils, flower essences, solarized and charged water, gem elixirs and energetic infusions. Each one is infused with the essence of love because I believe that the vibration of love can elevate the consciousness of the planet to its next level of development. So perhaps my original dream of changing the world CAN come true. With many of us working towards that end, I think it will!
About 99% of the people I have worked with doing a feng shui consultation have had concerns over their financial situations and/or their relationships. The challenge and joy of doing these consultations is coming up with cures that will best serve my clients.
I once worked with a woman whose family was under some financial distress. So I asked her to show me the far left corner of her home, which is the money corner. In it I found a waste can overflowing with trash. The paint was peeling, and in general this corner looked neglected, dirty, and frankly, if I were money, I would never be attracted to such a place!
We immediately moved the trash to an out of the way spot, still handy for her, but out of sight. We placed a thriving plant she had in front of the peeling paint until she could paint that area. We took a much-loved blue glass bowl of hers and filled it with coins from their family coin bottle. We also thoroughly washed the wall where trash had left its mark, along with the floor and the window. Once things were sparkling clean, the plant moved in, the coin bowl in place shining in the sunlit room on the windowsill, we dedicated a new way of being for money in that home.
One week later they received a check for a very large amount of money they were not expecting.
This is very dramatic and I admit that most times the results, though they come, are not quite as fabulous as this happy outcome, but it is certainly a lesson in seeing that results happen when one is conscious, intentional, and works from a heart centered space for the good of all. (That money was needed to put towards two college educations that were about to begin but no money was available.)
The relationship corner is on the other side of the home, the far right corner. Again, keep it clean, add pairs of things like chairs, tables (one should be on EACH side of the bed), candles, lamps, accessories, etc. Use some shade or tint of the red family from red itself into the pinks, magentas, cranberries, corals depending on which hue you most care for! It can be just a dab or so to have an effect! Once you have your relationship corner clean, and a pair of something there, consciously ask for what it is you want regarding relationship. Are you looking for a casual connection that is social or something more long term? Are you looking for a deep romance or something more light hearted? Whatever it is, define it, and ask for it. Keep this area spotless, space clear it if needed, and put your attention at least once a day on what it is you want to achieve.
Adding diffused essential oils, a color spray from Life Potentials, fresh flowers or a live plant, music and other enhancements will deepen your work on these important corners of your living space. Let me know how it goes!
